Bowersock Gallery will explore the modern still life with a dazzling array of 'takes' on inanimate objects. Subject: insentient bits and bobs, is largely an expression of both hyper and traditional realism where artists reflect upon the standard-bearer flower still, more often than not via arranged objects. Some reference the traditional, while others choose the decidedly contemporary. "The popularity of still life never wanes," Curator and Founder Steve Bowersock says. "If seventeen years in the gallery has taught us anything, it's that 'insentient bits and bobs' please. And literally, 'still life' is just that: still...life...as in a pause. Whether humorous, political, or narrative, these works highlight a beautiful and commanding calm which gives us just the perfect respite time to - breathe. It's not only a display of wonderfully placed objects to be viewed, but as well, for us to stop...look...be soothed...and enjoy"! Featured, are the paintings of Julie Beck, Natalie Featherston, Noriko Fox, Sydney Bella Sparrow, and Brittany Haynes. Subject: insentient bits and bobs also includes David Random's mixed media sculpture, where "found objects" are repurposed, turned on their heads, assembled and transformed into something entirely new - sometimes a recognizable item, other times a creation completely abstract. Realist painter Natalie Featherston puts the trick in still life with exceptional trompe l'oeil. Her "torn page," bases filled with a faux 3-D collage, are simply stunning.
