This is a very basic watercolor class for real beginners who have no background in color mixing, brush handling, etc. If you've taken a watercolor class before, this is not the class for you. You would be better suited to one of my other classes. No need to buy any supplies until after the first class. A willingness to try new things and do a little work to build some skills, as well as a sense of humor are all you need to have. In this class students will learn the basics of color mixing using a very limited palette, learn about various brushes and simple techniques in a fun, non-judgmental environment. I believe that painting, like drawing, is a skill that can be learned with practice and patience. We will be working from real objects, the landscape and people. No photos in this class. We'll be learning how to paint directly on the paper and how to paint what we see. If you have some watercolor experience, you may want to try the level 2 or 3 Watercolor for Scaredy Cats classes. These classes will build on the basic skills learned in the first level. Mary Richmond has been encouraging beginners to break out their creative selves and have some fun for many years. She believes everyone can be an artist and hopes you believe that, too. Materials we will be using (you may buy ahead if you wish—ask for a student discount if you buy locally): Cotman watercolors, small tubes Cadmium red, medium Alizarin crimson Ultramarine blue Prussian blue Raw sienna Lemon yellow Brushes—I recommend 3 rounds, #6, #12 and a really big one! Wait on the latter until you come to class for a recommendation at a reasonable price. Paper—A 9x12" pad of Canson watercolor paper—it should have a blue cover. A container for water A small white ceramic plate (not plastic) for a palette ( I buy mine at the thrift shop) Paper towels 4 Thursdays, in 2 sessions: July 1-3pm 8-29 or Aug 5-26 Art Studio $120/$102 members Mary Richmond grew up on Cape Cod and has drawn and painted her way through
