Intro to Birding
No matter where you are in the world, birds are all around us, all the time! Birding is a great way to get outdoors and interact with nature, both here in Massachusetts and beyond. Learn about different birds in our area and how to find and identify them in this introductory, 2-part* course with instructor Jim Sweeney. The course starts with an indoor presentation Thursday evening 9/20, then a field trip on Saturday, 9/22. Jim, a Southeastern Mass native, has been watching birds since he was in the 5th grade, a hobby that has taken him all over the world. He leads a number of naturalist programs with Wildlands Trust and is excited to share his wealth of knowledge with you. Thursday, September 20: Start indoors with a casual lecture to get you started with birding. Held in the Wildlands Trust Community Conservation Barn, 675 Long Pond Rd. from 6:30 - 8:30 pm. Saturday, September 22: Take a field trip at get birding! We'll meet at Wildlands Trust at 8:00 am and travel by car to different locations. Bring binoculars, notebooks, appropriate outdoor clothing, and lunch money. We'll break for lunch somewhere local and agreeable about halfway through the day, wrapping up back at Wildlands around 3:00. Field Trip Rain Date: Sunday, Sept. 23. *Attendees are asked to particpate in both portions of this class.
