Special Exhibit at the Sandwich Glass Museum - Mind and Hands: The MIT Glass Lab. A glass whale's tooth with a scrimshaw-like design made by a graduate of the Ocean Engineering department; a still life depicting greatly-enlrged blood cells by an instructor of Biological Engineering; lenticular glass objects produced by a unique hot glass 3D printer invented in a collaboration between the Glass Lab, Mechanical Engineering and the MIT Media Lab - these are a few examples of objects in this upcoming exhibit. "Mens et Manus"- is the motto of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). It perfectly describes the spirit of the MIT Glass Lab, hosted by MIT's Department of Materials Science and Engineering, the Glass Lab has existed for more than 40 years. Mind and Hands is a celebration of artwork work that often illustrates the collision of art and science, made by Glass Lab students, instructors, and alumni. Several group projects will include G3DP, a hot glass printer; Virtual Glass and the MIT Glass Band. A group of students, faculty, alumni and others, work together to make musical instruments out of glass, then compose musical arrangements using the unique sounds produced by these instruments.
